SWEAT DAY OF ACTION

The SWEAT bill is at a critical juncture. Opposition is trying to stop the bill from coming to a vote because they know it will pass. The industry group the NYC Hospitality Alliance is saying workers lie about wage theft, and if SWEAT passes, workers will bring even more frivolous lawsuits. Workers are furious that Senate leadership is preventing SWEAT from coming to the floor for a vote based on one group's willingness to the bidding of criminal bosses rather than law-abiding employers. See the Coalition's response here

We have less than a week left in the legislative session to get SWEAT passed! We had a great press conference on Wednesday and are having a digital day of action on Tuesday, June 8. We are calling on all Coalition members to contact Senate Leader Stewart-Cousins’ and Assembly Speaker Heastie’s offices and demand that SWEAT be brought to a vote. We also ask each Coalition member to share widely with their networks so we get this widest participation as possible across the state.  Please post on social media TODAY using this toolkit! Our message is simple: The time to end wage theft is NOW. Call and email Senate Leader Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Heastie to demand they put the SWEAT bill to a vote NOW.” Sample scripts are available here. We ask all partners to encourage widespread activity throughout the day, given that high volume and rate of activity increase online visibility. Thank you for your participation, and let’s get to work!-the SWEAT Coalition
