Just a friendly reminder that our monthly meeting is this evening, 6:30–8pm, in the basement of Seward Park Library (192 E Broadway). We’ll have a brief meeting and then head over to Columbus Park to help out Friend of a Friend, which does food distro for our unhoused friends and neighbors every Tuesday from 7:30 to 8pm at the corner of Hogan and Baxter, with meals provided by EVLoves NYC. We’re excited to team up with local groups doing important mutual aid work in Chinatown!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table at the NYC Anarchist Book Fair and Abolition Block Party in September! By selling zines and ephemera by AAD members and friends, we were able to raise hundreds of dollars for the Coalition to Protect Chinatown & LES and mutual aid efforts in Gaza and Lebanon. Special shout out to Students Selling Stickers for helping out our table at the Anarchist Book Fair.
On September 24th, community members gathered in front of Council Member Christopher Marte’s office to celebrate a hard-won victory: Chetrit, the developer attempting to build two luxury towers along the Two Bridges waterfront, recently defaulted on a major loan, and the lot now heads to the auction block. To quote Marte: “There’s still a lot of work to be done, we have to pass the Chinatown Working Group Plan… but when people on the street say this is just the way it is, there’s nothing we can do, you’re going to say: however, in Two Bridges, we took on developers and won!”For more details, see this announcement from the Coalition to Protect Chinatown & LES.
