Happy March! In lieu of our usual monthly meeting on Tuesday, we invite everyone to join us at Storefront for Art and Architecture on March 10th for Homes for People, Not for Profit, a discussion and workshop centering the right to housing (initially scheduled for March 7; apologies for any confusion). The event is now at capacity, but we encourage folks to sign up for the waiting list; we’re hopeful that everyone who wants to participate will be able to. Regardless of whether or not you can join, we’re actively seeking help with stenciling and wheatpasting messages about the right to housing throughout NYC this spring. If you’re interested, please sign up here.We also want to uplift the International Women’s Day rally on Sunday, March 8th, to end the 24-hour workday for home attendants (more details below). Hope to see you at City Hall!

On Tuesday, March 10th, 6–8pm, join us at Storefront for Homes for People, Not for Profit, a public program organized in conversation with Alex Strada’s Public Address and Storefront’s 1985 Homeless at Home project, in which artists and architects created and deployed stencils responding to homelessness throughout the city — out of the recognition that “HOME is an essential foundation of human existence.” Strada and Storefront will reflect on the intersections between Public Address and Homeless at Home, and we will discuss our past and current advocacy against predatory development and carceral infrastructure. These presentations will be followed by a hands-on workshop in which participants will make 12”x18” prints using replicas of the original stencils from Homeless at Home, alongside contemporary adaptations. We will invite participants to install these posters in public space, as well as to paint the stencils on a collaborative banner that will accompany our organizing efforts.

On Sunday, March 8th, join the Coalition to Fight for Our Health & Lives for the International Working Women’s Day rally to hold Governor Hochul and her running mate, Adrienne Adams, accountable for abandoning home care workers. We demand the following:

  1. End the 24-hour workday (pass the No More 24 Act) & enforce labor law

  2. Pass universal healthcare (New York Health Act)

  3. Stop displacement by building & preserving low-income housing, NOT jails or casinos

Unlike former City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams, her successor, Julie Menin, has expressed support for the No More 24 Act. We look forward to its long-overdue passage in 2026!RSVP for the rally here.

For the past year, a former AAD member (now based in the Bay Area) has been raising funds for several families in Gaza. Due to the US-backed war on Iran, Israel has closed all border crossings into Gaza, once again threatening the Gazan people with famine. You can support Vanessa and Jad’s new initiative, Hearts As Homelands, here:We are a team from inside and outside Gaza City. We are not just a relief organization; we are an international community that uses art, music, and honest words to build effective human solidarity. We support the resilience of the people of Gaza not only with resources, but also by affirming their humanity and their right to life, joy, and justice.
