Our monthly meeting is this Tuesday, September 8 @ 6:30-8pm on Zoom. We will be discussing the latest developments in the No Towers campaign, brainstorming a small business town hall, and getting reports on Chris Marte for City Council, East River Park, Sunset Park & Queens rezoning, a new mural project, NYPL bookclub, and more. Labor Day Rally
We’re not alone in this fight. Right now, communities of color & immigrants across New York City are pushing back against the billionaires trying to violently gentrify working-class neighborhoods like Sunset Park, Flushing, and the Lower East Side with racist rezoning plans imposed upon us by those who value property over people.
In Sunset Park, real estate money is trying to divide us, ghostwriting op-eds for politicians to mislead us, placing social media ads on our phones to deceive us, and using the bureaucrats on the City Planning Commission to allow more hotels onto our waterfront instead of listening to the thousands of community voices asking that we say “NO” to Industry City’s private waterfront rezoning.
From Sunset Park, to Flushing, to the Lower East Side -- we’re pushing back against those who seek to turn this economic crisis and pandemic into an opportunity to turn working class neighborhoods into playgrounds for the wealthy.
This Labor Day, join New Yorkers from across the five boroughs as we demand our city government to stop displacing communities of color. We will rally at Chelsea Market which is also the home of Jamestown (Industry City’s main owner) offices.
