Happy July! Instead of our usual monthly meeting this evening, we’ll be gathering at Elizabeth Street Garden at 6pm to celebrate some recent local victories. As members of the Coalition to Protect Chinatown & LES, we’re thrilled over Council Member Christopher Marte’s decisive victory in the District 1 Democratic primary and the preservation of Elizabeth Street Garden (ESG), as part of a deal that creates 620 units of affordable housing. In a city of such abundance, we should not have to choose between affordable housing and green space, especially while vacant lots languish. ESG is a volunteer-run garden that provides public programming year-round, a rare gem in a metropolis dominated by real estate capital. Hope to see you at tonight’s celebration! RSVP here.

CUNY is retaliating against City College of New York (CCNY) student leader Hadeeqa Arzoo Malik for her principled activism in support of Palestinian liberation. On July 2, CUNY issued a one-year suspension banning Hadeeqa from all of its 25 campuses, in a move that threatens political dissent across the country. Demand that CUNY drop Hadeeqa’s disciplinary charges here!

On July 18, the NYC Department of Health is closing the city’s last free PCR testing clinic, endangering our collective health and survival. Email and submit a complaint to Michelle Morse, Acting Commissioner of the Department of Health, using the sample script here.
