We will host a casual round table conversation with Basma Eid of MoMA Divest, and organizers of AAD, to discuss the idea of exhibit as direct action, institutional exit, and the always-intriguing role of art in community struggle. We will also have some brief reports on the current campaigns our members are participating in, including the Jing Fong Picket and fundraiser (ongoing: every Wednesday-Sunday 11am to 2pm), Recent and future Montez Press episodes (check our blog or Soundcloud for links to all the episodes so far!), being in dialogue with Fall River MoCA, and more...

Protect Chinatown Art Exhibit Opening on MONDAY!
CityGroup (members of AAD's architecture subcommittee) will be hosting an indoor version of the "Community Art and Health Fair" our Coalition hosted on the street in front of MoCA in October.

(from our coalition) Dear Friends and Neighbors, In October, many artists participated in our successful one-day #ProtectChinatown Community Art & Health Fair that celebrated the community’s history and ongoing organizing effort against racism and displacement. It received a lot of attention from passers-by who were able to learn more about the unity and determination that characterize our community's work to protect Chinatown and the Lower East Side.
Our petition effort has continued to go well since then, gaining support from acclaimed author, director and chef Eddie Huang and elected officials such as Congress Members Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney, State Senator Brad Holyman and Assembly Member Deborah Glick. Now, more exciting news - the artworks as well as the labor history photography exhibition will travel to the Citygroup space for an extended exhibition, along with some new artworks as well.
Additionally, we are working with artists to create a series of riso prints of artworks made by local artists that depict the anti-displacement struggle, all sales of which will go towards the Support Fund for Laid off Jing Fong Workers. The first print will be released at the exhibit opening night and will entail a collage of workers and supporters at the picket line with the lyrics of a protest song condemning MOCA's attacks on the community.
