We’ll be tabling at the Storefront Book Bash this weekend and doing a walkthrough with the artist Christian Hincapié on Wednesday; see below for more details and other upcoming events!
This Saturday and Sunday, from noon to 6pm, AAD will be in good company at the third annual Storefront Book Bash! Join us at Storefront (97 Kenmare St) to browse publications and goods from more than 40 independent presses, publishers, artists, and designers. All proceeds from our table will support mutual aid efforts in NYC and beyond.

This Wednesday at 12:30pm, Christian Hincapié is kindly giving us a walkthrough of his solo exhibition at Mishkin Gallery (135 E 22nd St). Decisions at a Desk emerges from Hincapié’s archival research on Robert Moses’ redesign of Riverside Park in the 1930s — specifically, four shackled monkey statues that were installed at the 148th Street playground — and is on view until December 19th. Last month, in lieu of our usual meeting, we attended a screening of A Home Worth Fighting For, which covers the pivotal and ongoing fight of NYCHA tenants against the proposed demolition of their homes in Chelsea.If you weren’t able to join, it is being screened this Saturday at the The People’s Forum (320 W 37th St), followed by a discussion with the director Natasha Florentino, tenant leader Renee Keitt, and others.The future of public housing is at stake, and we urge you to plug in! On December 1st, despite fierce community opposition, the New York State Gaming Facility Location Board approved all three bids for downstate casino licenses, including the one for Metropolitan Park in Flushing. The casino bids will now go to the Gaming Commission for final approval and licensure.The fight continues! Join Flushing Workers Center for a rally this Sunday to demand that Governor Hochul heed the voices of working-class communities.
